Beloit Janesville Symphony
Beloit Janesville Symphony (BJS) Organized in 1953 as a volunteer orchestra, the Beloit Janesville Symphony has grown to more than 70 professional musicians and nine staff. It now serves as a major cultural resource to the citizens of the Stateline area by providing a rich variety of orchestral music and related cultural outreach activities to the public, the schools, and other institutions in the service area, while providing an opportunity for talented musicians from a 40 mile radius to participate together in a meaningful orchestral experience. Edgerton Performing Arts Center
Located at 200 Elm High Drive, Edgerton, the Edgerton Performing Arts Center (EPAC) is owned and operated by the Edgerton School District. A pre-K – 12 facility, all grades see performances in music and drama, along with lyceums on various subject matters. In 2004, the Wartmann Endowment for the Performing Arts (WEpac) was conceived with a mission to provide a diverse selection of quality, affordable entertainment to the Edgerton community. Janesville Performing Arts Center
Since 2004, the Janesville Performing Arts Center, 408 S. Main St., Janesville, serves as the premiere performing arts and entertainment center for the greater Janesville area to enhance the quality of life for current residents and future generations. They offer a diverse mix of performances by local groups and professional touring acts. JPAC is also the home to the United Arts Alliance Hall of Fame and is located in the historic Marshall building. The Gallery houses a rotating art exhibit of works provided by members of the Janesville Art League as well as doubles as a meeting, special event, and smaller performance space. JPAC is proud to be “Fostering a Creative Community”. Rock Valley Chapter of Badger Chordhawks Chorus
The Badger Chordhawks was established in 1949. The Rock Valley chapter strives to be a widely-recognized, ever-growing, singing fraternity of men who are drawn together in fellowship by sharing their music with the public and by their enjoyment of singing in the barbership style. They pursue musical excellence by providing educational opportunities through choral singing, quartetting, gang-singing, wood-shedding, and participating in competitions. They share their style of music with the public to entertain, to recruit new members, to promote charitable causes, and to preserve the barbershop style for future generations. The Badger Chordhawks welcome all visitors and prospective members each Monday 7-9p.m. at the Gathering Place located at 715 Campus Street in Milton.
Choral Union was founded in 1881 and has performed annual concerts since 1919. The group’s mission is to perform the great choral masterpieces and to continue the choral tradition. Choral Union is a community chorus, bringing together singers and instrumental performers from area communities to learn and perform fine music. Membership is open to anyone interested in fine choral works.
Fran Thorpe Peyer
Fran owns Empire of Janesville, LLC which offers vocal, guitar, piano,trumpet, music theory and acting classes and tennis classes. Former President of our local music club, MacDowell Music Club, Fran still performs locally, she has performed in Europe the Middle East and in New York City, her hometown.Fran has been a private performing arts instructor since 1981.She began her performing arts career at the age of 3. She has directed and performed in many musicals and some film and TV and worked on various CD’s as producer and songwriter. Fran teaches not only the technical aspects of music, but also the heart of performance. She is currently taking students from the age of 3 years old and older and adults of all ages. HeatWave, the Rock County 4-H Show Choir, is a 30-member group representing twelve 4-H clubs from around the county and is open to anyone 13 years or older who is enrolled in the Rock County 4-H program. HeatWave was founded to provide a positive learning experience for 4-H youth interested in the performing arts. The group teaches performance skills, develops talent, encourages cooperation and creativity, and expands leadership and communication skills. Janesville Little Theatre
Janesville Little Theatre is Wisconsin’s oldest community theatre group. Founded in 1928, the group has continuously presented the classic comedies and dramas of Broadway. In addition to thought provoking contemporary plays, JLT is now back on the stage where they began at JPAC. Season tickets are available. MacDowell Music Club
The MacDowell Music Club supports the musical culture of its members through monthly programs, provides a venue for members who wish to perform, sponsors the Jr. Federated Festival, presents music scholarships for talented local youth, and supports other musical concerts and organizations. The MacDowell Music Club of Janesville was organized in 1903, and has been a member of the State and National Federation of Music Clubs since 1928. The group meets monthly at the Woman’s Club, 108 S. Jackson St., Janesville.
SpotLight on Kids/footlight productions
SpotLight on Kids’ mission is to make the performing arts come alive for the community, children in particular, by educating young people in all aspects of the performing arts. Performance and production opportunities are offered to allow children to acquire new skills and to achieve confidence through exploration of the performing arts. Teresa is a local singer/songwriter/guitarist. Her styles include blues, jazz, adult contemporary as well as many original songs. “For me music is peace. A lot of heart and soul goes into my songwriting and I thoroughly enjoy performing, both as a soloist and with my talented musician friends. I believe that the fine arts are the heart and soul of life, and hope to continue working with the UAA to promote the arts in Rock County.” Teresa performs solo and with her band Emerald City. Theatre Unlimited, Inc.
Theatre Unlimited, Inc., a theatre group dedicated to bringing high-quality musical theatre to southern Wisconsin, performs a variety of musicals from classics to contemporary, from Broadway to Disney, from adult productions to children’s shows. Since 1992, TUI has performed in various venues throughout Rock County. Today, TUI makes its home at JPAC. They present live entertainment performed by the community for the community. Local actors and musicians have presented numerous hits over the years, and have dedicated the proceeds of several shows to various other non-profit community agencies. UW-Rock County – University Theatre
Composed of UW-Rock County students and community members, the University Theatre stages two productions per year in addition to their annual 24-Hour Theatre Festival. University Theatre presents a mixture of children’s theatre, dramas, comedies, and large and small-scale musicals.
Yuri Rashkin, Composer, Musician
Since 1985, Freda Treder has presented 15 holiday, secular, Christian outreach and inspirational programs of narration and songs she has developed for many area churches and organizations in southern Wisconsin including performances of THE SECRET GARDEN at Rotary Gardens most recently in February, 2008. She also was invited to perform at Milton College Preservation Society’s “Sunday Afternoon in the Chapel”, Festival of Trees (Beloit Hospital Auxiliary), Rotary Garden’s Winter Wonderland Walk. The MacDowell Music Club of Janesville, Wisconsin was given a National Award of Merit in the Folk Music program category (1998) recognizing Freda Treder’s program based on “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
